Physiotherapy Clinic
Our Physiotherapy Clinic is held at Coastway Kemp Town and is headed by Julia Martin
MCSP ACPAT. Julia qualified as a chartered physiotherapist in 1980 and has been
a member of ACPAT (the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy)
since 1985.
What conditions benefit From physiotherapy?
An animal can be referred for physiotherapy for a variety of reasons:
- Following an accident or injury
- To help prepare for and recover from surgery
- To help alleviate spinal problems
- Lameness
- Joint problems like arthritis
- Neurological conditions, i.e. nerve and spinal cord trauma or disease
- Immobility
Assessment and treatment
Following a veterinary referral Julia will make a thorough examination of the animal
to assess the problem, build a trusting relationship with the animal and develop
a tailored treatment plan. Treatment can include massage, soft tissue manipulation
and mobilisation, neurological treatments, electrotherapy and myofascial trigger
point therapy. Whatever the treatment plan is, it will be clearly explained. Throughout
treatment, Julia stays in close contact with both vet and owners to assess progress.
