Orthopaedic referral services
We are fortunate to have in-house practitioners who are able to offer surgical solutions for a wide range of orthopaedic needs.
Our orthopaedics department is headed up by Christos Papadopoulos.

Our orthopaedics specialist
Christos Papadopoulos DVM, MSc SAS MRCVS, RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery
After graduating from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece in 2007, Christos completed a year-long internship at the university. He gained his master’s degree in small animal surgery in 2011, focusing on orthopaedic surgery, and spent three years working as a general practitioner in Greece, before moving to the UK in 2012.
Chris works as an independent visiting surgeon providing peripatetic/Mobile orthopaedic services, including:
- Arthrodesis
- Cruciate disease (TPLO, TTA, lateral suture system)
- Patellar luxation
- Hip luxation
- Fracture repairs

What is the most common orthopaedic surgical procedure performed at Coastway?
Canine cranial cruciate ligament rupture is a common cause of hind limb lameness in the dog.
Depending on the injury, Christos offers two surgical techniques to help stabilise the joint affected, Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO)’ and the lateral suture system.
During the patient’s consultation, Christos will talk through the best procedure for your pet and explain what will happen on the day of surgery and during their recovery.
Patients will need to have at least one post-operative check-up, usually one to two days after surgery, and an x-ray approximately six weeks after surgery, to make sure that everything is healing as we would expect.
