What is Laparoscopic Surgery?

At Coastway vets, we offer laparoscopic surgery, also known as “keyhole surgery,” a gentle and advanced approach to surgical procedures for your pets. This method uses smaller incisions, which means a more comfortable experience for your pet and quicker recovery times.

Why Choose Laparoscopic Surgery?

Here are some of the fantastic benefits of laparoscopic surgery:

  • Smaller Incisions: Instead of larger cuts, we make just 2 to 3 tiny incisions, usually less than 1cm. These are closed with special dissolvable stitches, so there’s no need for a follow-up visit to remove them! Smaller wounds also mean less chance of your pet bothering the area while it heals.
  • Less Pain and Discomfort: Thanks to the smaller incisions and careful handling of tissues, your pet will experience less pain after surgery, making their recovery much smoother.
  • Better Visualization: Our laparoscopic equipment allows us to see the surgical area in great detail. This means we can perform procedures more precisely and safely, reducing the risk of bleeding.
  • Thorough Examination: The enhanced view lets our skilled surgeons check the entire abdominal cavity for any issues, ensuring your pet receives comprehensive care.
  • Quicker Surgery: Laparoscopic procedures typically take less time than traditional surgeries, which means your pet spends less time under anaesthesia.
  • Faster Recovery: With less pain and smaller incisions, most pets only need about 5 days of rest on a lead before returning to their normal activities!

Important Information

Please note that laparoscopic procedures may require a larger area to be clipped than traditional surgeries. In rare cases, if complications arise during surgery, we may need to switch to a conventional open procedure for your pet’s safety. Rest assured, our veterinary team will discuss all options with you beforehand.
