Repeat Prescriptions

How to order your pet's medications

At Coastway we strive to provide the highest quality of care for your pets. We understand that some pets require long-term medications to manage their health conditions, and we want to ensure that the process of obtaining repeat prescriptions is as smooth and efficient as possible.

The information below is intended as a guide, however, if you want to request a repeat prescription please complete our online form below.

To process a request for repeat prescriptions, we require 2-3 working days’ notice to ensure that we have enough time to review your pet’s medical history and prepare the prescription. For urgent repeat prescriptions needed on the day, please contact your local branch and we will do our best to accommodate your request; however, please be aware that any urgent requests made on the same day incur an additional fee of £25.48 to cover the additional resources and time required to process the request.

We understand that sometimes it may be more convenient or cost-effective to obtain your pet’s medications through online retailers or other alternative sources. In such cases, we offer written prescriptions for repeat medications at a cost of £18 per script and £11.60 per additional item. This covers the time and resources needed for our veterinary surgeons to review your pet’s medical records, and ensure that the prescribed medication is appropriate and effective for your pet’s specific needs.

Please note that some medications require physical assessment by a veterinary surgeon before a prescription can be issued. In such cases additional consultation fees will apply.

At our veterinary practice, we want to ensure the highest standards of care for your beloved pets. As part of the new rules set by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), we are now required to conduct a physical examination before prescribing certain medications. These medications include controlled drugs like opioids and anti-seizure drugs, as well as antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, and antiparasitics.

After the initial physical assessment, your veterinarian may be able to set up a repeat prescription, eliminating the need for a consultation every time you require medication. The frequency of physical rechecks will vary depending on your pet's condition, typically ranging from 4 to 6 months. However, for flea and worming treatments, rechecks will be scheduled up to 12 months apart.

During these recheck consultations, we will evaluate your pet's current health status, address any concerns or changes you have noticed in their behavior and physical well-being, and make any necessary adjustments to their medication dosages. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with these new regulations.

Our primary goal is to ensure the well-being and safety of your pet companions. If you have any questions or require further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team.

We are pleased to offer additional convenience to our clients by providing a medication delivery service straight to your doorstep, if you live within 3 miles from one of our branches. This helps save you precious time and avoids the hassle of having to collect medication from our practices in person.

For an additional fee of just £5.00, we can deliver your pet’s repeat medications directly to you, usually within 2-3 working days of processing your request. Please note that this service is not available for urgent medications, as we want to ensure that those receive timely and proper attention at our clinic. Please note that if you request delivery for controlled drugs such as opioids or anti-seizure medications, you will have to be home to sign for the delivery.

To take advantage of our medication delivery service, simply let us know when you request your repeat prescription and provide us with your delivery address. We’ll take care of the rest and make sure your pet’s medication arrives safely and efficiently.
